This thesis emphasizes ecotourism and the economic impact it can have. It explores the extent
to which green actions and sustainability influence tourism businesses and travelers preferences
for ''green'' hotels. This study follows a combination of literature review and primary research
to examine sustainable tourism trends, economic impacts and consumers' willingness to pay
extra financially for sustainable accommodation.
During the theoretical analysis, the conceptual definition of ecotourism and its relationship
with sustainable development is presented. The dual impact of the tourism industry on the
environment is highlighted, as mass tourism often causes pollution and resource waste, while
its sustainable practices can help preserve natural ecosystems and reduce the energy footprint
of businesses. The paper analyses the institutional framework and international sustainability
initiatives, such as the UN Sustainable Development Goals and Green Certifications, tools
capable of promoting the environmental responsibility of hotels. At the same time, the role of
digitalization in tourism and its marketing is examined, which can have a "green" outcome with
results that will promote sustainable destinations. At the economic level, the analysis highlights
the figures that demonstrate the contribution of tourism to GDP and employment. Sustainable
tourism is presented as a sector that brings economic growth by attracting environmentally
aware visitors and enhancing the competitiveness of tourism businesses. The research conducted in the context of the thesis explores the perceptions and attitudes of
consumers towards ecological hotels. Through the analysis of demographic characteristics of
the respondents and their consumer preferences, the growing demand for sustainable
accommodation options is reflected, as well as the economic factors that influence visitors'
decisions. Although there appears to be recognition of the importance of ecology in tourism,
the willingness to pay a higher price for a 'green' stay varies, suggesting the need for further
strengthening of environmental education and subsidized programs.
In conclusion, the paper highlights the importance of sustainable tourism as a tool for
economic development and environmental protection. Eco-tourism businesses can offer
significant economic and environmental benefits, provided they are supported by appropriate
policies and investments. Green tourism is no longer considered a trendy trend, but a necessity
for the sustainable development of the tourism sector.
