This thesis examines the methodologies for designing and developing information
systems (IS), focusing on both traditional approaches and modern agile methods. As
businesses transition to digital environments with increased demands, choosing the
right methodology becomes critical for successful software development and achieving
strategic goals.
Initially, traditional methodologies such as the Waterfall model and the V-Model are
presented, which are characterized by linear flow and control, but present difficulties in
adapting to changes. Then, modern methodologies such as Agile, Scrum, Kanban and
DevOps are analyzed, which offer greater flexibility, collaboration and continuous
feedback.
The paper proceeds to a comparative analysis of the above methods based on a
series of criteria such as flexibility, development time, cost and change management. In
addition, case studies from companies such as Spotify, Netflix and Greek organizations
are included, highlighting the application of these methodologies in practice.
Particular emphasis is given to technological trends such as Artificial Intelligence, Big
Data, Cloud Computing and Blockchain, which have a decisive impact on the process of
developing a software. Finally, suggestions are made for the selection of the appropriate
methodology based on the project and the needs of the organization, as well as
prospects for future research and development of existing practices.
