Risk assessment ; StatisticsΠερίληψη
This study offers a comprehensive description of maritime operational threats, with focus on the identification, classification and assessment of safety risks in various vessel operations de-partments. It synthesizes data from various functional fields such as navigation, mooring, en-gine usage and cargo handling to construct an orderly conceptualization of how risks unfold in the maritime industry.
A combination of several academic approaches was used in this study, including operational knowledge, safety management principles and data-driven techniques, to establish a framework for categorizing risks based on both frequency and severity. Emphasis was placed on under-standing how these factors interact, shaping the prioritization of safety interventions within Safety Management Systems (SMS).
This research is based on statistical methods and correlation analysis that allows for the inves-tigation of patterns that lead to a better and more objective decisions based on evidence. The result is a tool that leads to more reliable risk assessment and yet is flexible enough to ac-commodate real operations of modern shipping. This thesis provides input for developing pro-active risk mitigation measures for the maritime domain and can, therefore, contribute to a saf-er, more secure and more compliant maritime operational setting
