This thesis explores the impact of technological advancement on the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) of European Union member states, with a particular focus on the role of the digital economy. It seeks to examine how digital technologies and innovation contribute to macroeconomic performance and productivity, while also addressing the institutional and policy-related factors that shape this relationship. Drawing on both theoretical insights and empirical analysis, the study utilizes data from EU countries to provide a comprehensive understanding of how digital transformation influences economic growth trajectories across Europe.
The findings underscore the critical role of technological progress as a catalyst for economic development, driving efficiency gains and expanding the productive capacity of national economies. However, the transition toward a fully digital economic environment presents considerable challenges, including the persistence of the digital divide, unequal access to technological infrastructure, and the increasing need for workforce upskilling. In response to these challenges, the study advocates for a set of targeted policy measures aimed at fostering digital literacy and education, supporting small and medium-sized enterprises in adopting digital technologies, enhancing regulatory frameworks, and addressing structural disparities in digital access and inclusion.
