The integration of new technologies and artificial intelligence (AI) in shipping has revolutionised risk
management practices in the shipping industry. As shipping becomes increasingly complex, traditional risk
management approaches are no longer sufficient to address emerging challenges. This study explores the role of
artificial intelligence and advanced technologies in enhancing risk assessment, mitigation and management. By
leveraging data analytics, machine learning algorithms and predictive modelling, shipping companies can more
accurately identify potential risks and respond proactively. Techniques such as HAZOP studies, failure mode and
effects analysis (FMEA) and Monte Carlo simulations further enhance decision-making processes. Case studies
from leading shipping companies show successful applications of these technologies, demonstrating their impact
on operational efficiency and safety. Ultimately, this research highlights the need to adopt innovative approaches
to risk management, positioning the shipping industry for a safer and more resilient future in an era of rapid
technological advancement.
