Educational reforms are a fundamental pillar of change and improvement in educational
systems, aiming to adapt them to social, economic, and technological developments.
This study examines educational reforms in Greece, focusing on legislation, policies,
and their impact on shaping the education system over time. Initially, the research
explores the concept and significance of educational reforms, presenting the historical
context of changes in Greece and the influences of European guidelines. The study
analyzes the key challenges faced during the reform process, such as adapting education
to modern societal needs, addressing funding shortages, and overcoming resistance to
change.
Subsequently, the study examines the need for continuous educational reforms in
Greece, presenting the key policies from the 1980s to 2020. Specifically, it discusses
the legislative frameworks, the reforms attempted, and the policies influenced by
international educational trends. Finally, the study focuses on the impact of educational
reforms, analyzing how they have shaped the structure of the Greek education system.
It examines their relationship with the labor market, lifelong learning, and social
developments. Additionally, a recap of key findings highlights the importance of
maintaining the momentum of educational transformation. Overall, the study concludes
that educational reforms are necessary, but their successful implementation requires a
clear strategy, adequate funding, and support from both the educational community and
society.
