The increasing emphasis on performing Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG)
criteria has transformed corporate strategies to address climate risks and promote
sustainability, especially in the energy sector. The existing literature on ESG reporting
practices often overlooks regional peculiarities, particularly in countries such as
Greece, where regulatory frameworks and organizational processes are evolving. This
research examines the role of ESG performance in reducing climate risks and
promoting business sustainability through a case study by a Greek energy supplier. It
focuses on gaps in the existing literature on the challenges of adopting and
implementing ESG criteria, offering a comparative analysis of priorities among
corporate stakeholders. The methodology includes literature review, implementation of
material analysis, and qualitative analysis of data from surveys and reports. The results
show that adopting ESG strategies contributes substantially to sustainability by
providing concrete recommendations to improve reporting processes and enhance
transparency. Overall, the findings of the study offer new perspectives for improving
ESG performance in Greek companies, underlining the importance of adapting
practices at national level and enhancing compliance with international standards.
