In today's society, the average person has an especially heavy and packed schedule due to the fast
pace of life and increased competition in the job market. For this reason, people are constantly looking
for ways to escape routine and the challenges of daily life. Each person pursues this with a different
approach: some choose to spend their free time engaging in sports or simply going to the gym, others
find companionship in the pages of a book, and many enjoy spending their time watching movies and
series on television. In recent years, the seventh art has gained considerable popularity. We are
referring to the realm of cinema. It is noticeable that more and more people are heading to their local
cinemas to watch movies. The film industry has taken a huge leap in recent years, thanks to public
demand for new and quality works. Movie quality has skyrocketed, and the budgets reach jawdropping figures.
For this reason, for my thesis, I decided to develop a web application that will recommend movies
to users based on their preferences and also allow them to purchase tickets to watch them at a
cinema of their choice. This application was developed in Python and specifically uses the Flask
microframework. Its name is Flix, and it presents users with all the available movies currently playing
in cinemas. Movie selection is based on the user’s stated genre preferences. Ticket purchases are
made online, and the application is accessible from any browser.

I believe this application has potential, and with further additions, primarily in the area of design, it
could prove useful to many users across different age groups. Beyond design enhancements, there
are other ideas that could be implemented in a future phase, which will be thoroughly developed in
the appropriate section.
