Abstract
In recent years there has been an increasing tendency for companies to continuously incorporate ESG (environmental, social and governance factors) criteria into their assets. With the global economic crisis hitting the markets, borrowers have found it difficult to meet their obligations, which has led most banks to revise their customers' credit rating criteria in order to ensure the necessary solvency and avoid credit risk. The new initiative of the banking system is to collect information and data from prospective borrowers at all times on the application of ESG factors in their business plans. In this way, modern lending standards are established that respond directly to the demands of the times, while at the same time promote strong incentives for the business sector to adopt sustainable practices in their existing strategies. Undoubtedly, key ESG factors will play a leading role in the organisation of business in the future, with banking systems increasingly specialising in the possible ways of granting loans and the method of assessing creditworthiness.
