The purpose of this thesis is to highlight the need to create an oncology unit in Greece, which results both from the current state of the health sector and the social impact that the clinic will have, as well as from an economic point of view, by depicting a 10-year sustainability forecast for the operation of the unit.
Specifically, to document the above, the analysis is practically divided into two parts, the social-qualitative analysis, and the economic-quantitative analysis.
In the first part, there is initially an explanation of the terms and the main facts that one should know about cancer, as well as the statistical depiction of the current situation in Greece. Based on the above, it is documented that the strategically best place for the establishment of an oncology unit is Megalopolis in the prefecture of Arcadia. In addition, the target group of the unit is determined according to its services, and finally a reference is made to the more bureaucratic issues of establishing the unit such as the legislative framework and the process of issuing an operating license.
In the second part, the financial analysis begins with the determination of the initial capital that will be required for the establishment of the unit with a breakdown of the initial costs. Then, an in-depth analysis of the unit's activity is carried out, with a time horizon of 10 years. Specifically, important financial figures are calculated, such as turnover, costs, inventories, depreciation and finally the profit and loss statement.
Finally, in order to prove the positivity of such an investment, some additional analyzes are made on the above results, such as SWOT analysis, cost-benefit analysis, break-even analysis and calculation of various indicators such as IRR, NPV and payback period.
