Abstract

The main subject of the thesis is the decoding of the European Union legislation in the context of the "Fit for 55" package for the gradual decarbonisation of shipping with emphasis on FuelEUMaritime. This analysis intends to examine the objectives and policies adopted at EU level to reduce carbon emissions in the shipping sector, the measures taken to achieve these objectives as well as the future outlook for shipping in terms of technological and operational developments, the use of renewable energy sources or alternative fuels.
