This paper provides a comprehensive comparative analysis of health care systems in Europe, with particular emphasis on the Greek system. By examining key data and indicators, as well as relevant health policies, the study aims to identify similarities, differences, strengths and challenges in healthcare delivery and policy making.
The analysis begins by providing a comprehensive overview of the health system, focusing on the Greek health system and its historical evolution. It also explores the challenges facing the Greek health system, including the impact of Greece's engagement with the International Monetary Fund and the financial crisis on health services. The paper further examines the health systems of France and Germany, comparing and analysing them in relation to the European context. It then delves into public health policy, discussing the strategies and approaches used to promote and protect the health of populations. It also examines the effectiveness of the health system in responding to the COVID-19 pandemic and the importance of policy-making for future pandemics. A health expenditure and financing matrix is also presented, which provides information on the financial aspects of health care systems. Overall, this paper contributes to a better understanding of the Greek health system, its challenges and its comparison with other European health systems. It highlights the importance of public health policy, the need for effective responses to pandemics, and the economic considerations related to healthcare delivery.
