Sustainable development is a subject of debate and policy, especially in light of the climate crisis and wider issues that threaten global stability, such as poverty, justice, education, and health. Businesses in particular are called upon to comply with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) established by the UN in 2015, either by law (for the largest companies) or by the demands of consumers, suppliers, and partners, and in response to fierce competition. SDGs offer an excellent scope for innovation and diversification, giving companies a competitive advantage.
