Medical tourism has experienced rapid growth in recent years worldwide, generating significant profits for the countries that are actively involved in it. In addition to a large number of factors, which are related to the lower cost of health services provided at the
destination country and the high quality of these services, the Internet had also a significant role in the growth of medical tourism as well as the medical tourism facilitators, who are responsible for organizing all the details.
Greece, already one of the most popular tourist destinations due to its special characteristics, could become a leading medical tourism destination, given the fact that it offers excellent health services at competitive prices, thus contributing significantly to the country's economy.
The aim of this paper is to evaluate the potential ways of expanding medical tourism in Greece and how crucial is the proper marketing and promotion. For that purpose, a hypothetical medical tourism facilitator will create a website.
The paper has the following structure: the first chapter explains the definition of medical tourism, the factors that have contributed
to its rapid growth in recent years, the industry on which it is based and evolving, and what are the main factors for choosing a specific destination. The second chapter first analyses medical tourism on an international level and which countries are the most popular destinations and then the situation in Greece along with the most popular treatments, the health providers already active in the industry and the factors and prospects for growth. The third chapter refers to the value but also the very important role of a medical tourism facilitator, the services provided and the distribution channels. In addition, two comparative studies of the main websites both abroad and in Greece are presented. The fourth chapter analyzes the design and the basic characteristics of a website. In the fifth chapter, the business model and the implementation plan of the company are analyzed and in the sixth and
last chapter, the creation of the website is carried out.
