The purpose of this master's thesis is to investigate the impact of the implementation of the recent legislative framework in which the entrepreneurial activity of academic and research spin-offs is clarified and acquires new dynamics. The aim is to record the current image of academic spin-offs, as well as the activities of researchers and scientific members, who contribute to the establishment and promotion of university spin-off companies. The research is qualitative and the methodology used is based on a literature review and case studies of the topics related to entrepreneurship, innovation, the establishment, operation and sustainability of academic and research spin-offs. The research shows that entrepreneurship and innovation ecosystems aim at the flexible and effective connection of corporate organizations, government agencies, funds, partners, customers, suppliers by participating in the provision and promotion of a product or service. Special mention is made of the Technology Transfer Offices (ΤΤΟ's) that play an important role in the technology transfer process and in supporting researchers who aspire to the protection of intellectual property and the economic exploitation of their research results. The new legislation frame (2021) aims to build relationships of trust between the members of the research community and the innovation ecosystem through entrepreneurship, with significant benefits to the entire local and wider society. The study of the current situation and the prospects for the development of more academic spin-offs, as well as the ways in which the effort towards this orientation can be encouraged, is expected to be beneficial to those researchers who wish to become active in this direction.
