Quality of life is a fundamental concept, and its assessment is vastly applicable in the fields of health and medicine. This research paper examines the issue of the quality of life of people with disabilities. Its central purpose is to investigate and evaluate the quality of life of individuals with chronic physical or sensory impairment and the effect that various external factors have on it.
The study investigates 92 men and women, aged 18 or over, who live in Greece and have physical or sensory disability. The survey is conducted with cross-sectional quantitative study and the data were collected through questionnaires which were distributed to all the Federations and Associations of Disabled People of Greece. Τhe questionnaires were constructed with Google Forms, they were edited in Excel, and they were statistically analyzed with Stata statistical software. Moreover, it has been used the questionnaire EQ-5D-3L of the European Organization Euroqol and the vertical visual analogue scale EQ-VAS.
The most significant results of the study were extracted through multiple linear regression analysis. Particularly, there were variables that had positive and others that had negative correlation with the variable of the quality-of-life index, while, also, there were statistically significant results. Statistical significance is indicated in the variables “Sport” and “Extent of Disability” (partial/total). Regression analysis is conducted once for the total studied population of disabled individuals and once for the physically disabled.
All the outcomes that came out of this research study present a significant demographic, social and scientific interest. The most noteworthy of those consist of the improved level of the quality of life of those who are doing regular physical activity and of the deteriorated level of those who have total or prenatal disability. These observations apply both to the general studied sample of disabled individuals and to the disabled with physical impairment.
