A topic that concerns the scientific community, the international economy and society in general, is the presence of women in the business sector. In this paper, female entrepreneurship is studied, more specifically in the field of education. In the first part of the paper, the characteristics of female entrepreneurship, the equality of both sexes in the labor market, the current data on female entrepreneurship, but also female leadership in education and its characteristics are examined. The second part of the paper focuses on the study of two cases of private schools, which have been founded by women in Greece in the 1960s and apply the Montessori education system. Through the study of the bibliography and the case study, it was found that female entrepreneurs and especially those who are active in the field of education, although fewer in number compared to men, present a remarkable business activity and occupy managerial positions in which they cope with particular success. It was also found that female entrepreneurs, despite stereotypes and perceptions, innovate, take risks and present new ideas. Finally, suggestions for further research are also included.
