The purpose of this thesis is to study and present the challenges faced by the aviation
industry during the period of the coronavirus, and more specifically air cargo transport.
For writing this diploma, relevant information collection from academic and grey
literature was crucial. Airlines, ground handling companies and airport operators
handbooks were also an important source of information.
The global distribution of medical equipment and vaccines against COVID-19 requires
the air transport industry to deliver with the highest speed, reliability, safety and
transparency. Internationally recognized standards and certifications such as the IATA
Center of Excellence for Independent Validators in Pharmaceutical Logistics (CEIV
Pharma), Good Distribution Practice (GDP) and the Transport Asset Protection
Association (TAPA) prove fundamental and certify the correct handling and
transportation of the vaccines against COVID-19, as well as the relevant medical
equipment. This supply chain guidance helps national and regional supply and logistics
points prepare and strengthen their strategies for receiving, storing, distributing and
managing the COVID-19 vaccines and adjuvants, in accordance with their national
vaccination plan. Finally, the application of technology and digital solutions can
significantly increase the efficiency of business processes, as it allows the optimal use
of available resources and solves the main problem of information exchange between
all participants in air freight transport.
