Abstract

By ship’s hull maintenance, we mean a set of technological, operational and production procedures that ensure the purity of the hull. The main objectives are to protect against corrosion, to prevent the development of biological pollution on the hull and to save ship’s energy. The use of passive and active protection systems, the cleaning of the hull and the renewal of the hull painting during dry-docking, as well as the use of underwater cleaning techniques by specialized personnel are main methods of protection and maintenance of the hull. In this study will be analyzed the most important technologies that contribute to the hull’s maintenance in combination with International regulations and the expected economic benefit or supply cost per technology. The objective is to analyze the above factors in order to adequately understand how they can contribute to achieving optimal ship’s performance.
