Examining the existing competition between the yacht ports of the countries situaqted in the eastern Mediterranean, our attempt is to find the position of Greece and how it can be improved. The achievement of the goal is effected through the comparison of specific factors such as number of berths, the length of the coastline, the number of marinas, the number of blue flags. A small reference is also made to factors such as the institutional and tax framework and the VAT rate.The essay consists of 5 chapters.
The first chapter refers to the various definitions found in the literature regarding maritime tourism as well as the concepts associated with it and to the two organized forms of maritime tourism, namely to the cruise and private yachting.
The second section analyzes the private yachting in Greece, specifically refers to the historical background and its evolution, to the institutional framework that has been developed and to the relevant changes that followed over time, to the leisure boats and their characteristics and to the companies operating in the industry.
The third chapter presents the Greek yacht ports and anchorages, the ownership regime and the services that are provided. This chapter also analyzes the demand by examining the factors that affect it.
The fourth chapter examines the aim of the essay which is to evaluate the position of Greece in the european yachting sector and specifically between its competitors in the eastern Mediterranean. The analysis of competition between the countries of the Eastern Mediterranean is conducted by comparing specific data, as mentioned above. It follows a small comparison with the players of the western Mediterranean in order to find practices that could be used by Greece to improve its position.
The fifth chapter presents the conclusions and proposals for the improvement of Greece's position in the yachting sector in the eastern Mediterranean region.
