This dissertation is investigating the effects of the implementation of digital education during the COVID-19 pandemic and whether these effects are related to the European Union’s Digital Education Action Plan (2021-2027). The research on the topic is conducted through bibliographic review of scientific articles and books that have been published on the topic of digital education as well as through the analysis of the results of relevant research. First, the definitions and characteristics of digital education are presented. Then, it describes in detail the advantages and possibilities that digital education has to offer on the one hand, while on the other hand it shows the disadvantages and potential risks.
An important part of this work is the extensive presentation of the European Union Action Plan for Digital Education (2021-2027). In addition, the current state of the Greek education system is described and analyzed regarding the implementation of digital education. Finally, an attempt is made to find common ground between the effects of the implementation of digital education during the COVID-19 pandemic in the Greek education system and the European Union Action Plan for Digital Education (2021-2027).
