In today's globalized environment, businesses, but also economies in general, are called upon to meet the ongoing economic, social, political, environmental and technological challenges so that they can be fully competitive. The international economic crisis of 2008/9, which hit the world economy, and which, as will be mentioned in the next chapter of this dissertation, started, at European level, from Greece, forced the individual economies in a direct and urgent way to adapt to current developments so that they can continue to be sustainable and be able to improve their competitiveness.
This paper - thesis is a comprehensive bibliographic and research study, which was carried out in order to fill certain gaps, which are identified in the current literature regarding the Foreign Direct Investments and the impact they had in four countries of the Union, which entered in support mechanisms from the European institutions (Fiscal Adjustment Programs).
The ultimate purpose of this dissertation is to display bibliographically, but also through statistical analysis the impact that key macroeconomic variables had on Foreign Direct Investments in countries that have joined the adjustment program. In order to be able to more fully capture the findings, data from the official EU statistical databases were used, through quantitative analysis, to capture the interaction of the variables and to examine the theoretical conclusions. The structure of this dissertation is consisted of three parts:
In the first two parts are reflected, through the bibliographic review, existing studies and researches regarding the subject under study. Specifically, this dissertation is consisted of primary as well as secondary elements, which are used to draw safe conclusions regarding Foreign Direct Investments in countries under fiscal adjustment programs.
The third part of this dissertation consists of statistical analysis of data through quantitative analysis.
