Τhis dissertation deals with the Blue Ocean Strategy which challenges companies to break out of the Red Ocean to create uncontested market space and make the competition irrelevant. The Red Oceans represent the well-established industries, while the blue oceans represent open spaces in the market, where the demand has not formed yet.
Firstly, a set of analytical tools and frameworks are introduced to show how firms should act if they want to swim successfully in the Blue Ocean. Furthermore, there is plenty of elaboration on the principles that define and separate Blue Ocean strategy from strategic thought based on competition. Therefore, the right steps that businesses should follow to implement the Blue Ocean strategy are addressed. Additionally, managers may confront organizational impediments during the strategy implementation; therefore, strategic methods are proposed to overcome all the above problems.
Finally, specific cases of healthcare companies, which have successfully implemented the Blue Ocean strategy and managed to achieve high profits and growth, are thoroughly studied and examined.
