This paper aims to explore the rhetorical sites in the debates that have erupted in public discourse, in the US Congress and in the media, before and during the episodes that unfolded on the US Capitol on January 6, 2021 and until the acquittal of the 45th President of the United States, Donald Trump in the trial of 13th February 2021.
The purpose of this paper is to record and analyze the rhetorical strategy of the former US President, Donald Trump, as it emerged during the period under review, its correlation with the events, its influence on their outcome and its regulatory role in the implementation of institutional procedures.
The positions and statements of Trump's opponents and the media play an important role in the analysis, as they are the other pole of confrontation, creating opposite dipoles of "attack-defense" and "accusation-apology" in the public debate. The invasion of the US Capitol is seen as the event - the culmination of these processes and created a fertile ground for further investigation of rhetorical strategies applied in times of crisis.
The strategies used are described and analyzed, in order to draw conclusions about the impact of the crisis on the image of the actors who framed it. The result of the analysis is the identification of strategies that fulfilled an objective goal that had been set from the beginning.
