Entrepreneurship is an umbrella term in economics, which emphasizes the exploitation of opportunities in order to generate value through managing the existing resources. It is directly linked to economic growth and its strengthening is a goal for modern societies. That goal can be achieved amongst others, through education, in particular Enterprise Education, since one’s entrepreneurial mindset and all related skills, abilities and attitudes can be cultivated. However, in order to make their cultivation possible, teachers must utilize specific teaching methods, technics and activities in the teaching practice, with emphasize exactly on the cultivation of such skills.
Until recently, there was no Enterprise Education program been implemented in Primary Education, in Greece. The Greek Ministry of Education, however, starting from the current academic year 2021-2022, has planned to implement a program based on Skills Laboratories which will include a variety of sector. One of those will have entrepreneurship as its main theme.
In this research, which was conducted with the participation of 153 teachers from schools all over Greece in an online survey, an attempt was made to show how do teachers feel about the introduction of Enterprise Education in Elementary school and whether are they already cultivating business skills through their teaching. The results indicated that, although some skills are been cultivated, this is not done systematically or even to the maximum degree possible. It is also affected by each teacher’s years of service and experience, as well as by the region in which the school is located. Nevertheless, the teachers, although they have no particular prior knowledge on the subject, do agree with the implementation of Enterprise Education in Primary School, especially in the form of a Workshop focusing on the cultivation of skills related to entrepreneurial mindset.
