This research will focus on the value of respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) vaccination. Respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) is a common, contagious, seasonal pathogen that will infect almost all babies until their second birthday. RSV is the leading cause of lower respiratory tract infections, mainly bronchiolitis and pneumonia, in infants and young children, resulting in annual epidemics worldwide. Currently, there is no cure for RSV and treatment is limited to symptomatic relief. Although there is no vaccine available on the market, there are several ongoing vaccine development programs in various stages. Therefore, the first goal of this research is to demonstrate the great need to create an effective vaccine. However, in order to assess whether one of these vaccines can be a future benefit for national immunization programs, it is necessary to shape the costs and benefits of different population vaccination strategies. For this purpose, a literature review is performed on recent cost-effectiveness studies of RSV vaccination in other countries.
