The aim of the current master thesis is the analysis of the properties of Aromatic and Medicinal Plants (A.M.P.) of Greek agricultural production and also the screening of the top AMPs in terms of active substances, pharmaceutical and cosmetic industry applications, food-grade products and cultivation efficiency. Furthermore, the present work mentions the importance of the A.M.P. to the daily routine of humans since ancient times until today, presenting the various ways of use. A 5-year financial analysis is also conducted, based on the physical yield of each plant per cultivated acre and on the final product dried biomass, which highlights the cultivation trend of each AMP. Additionally, a review of the as-is situation of the Greek A.M.P. market is conducted, including the study of companies of the sector. Furthermore, a case study of one of the most successful Greek AMP companies, Korres S.A., is carried out, with a corresponding financial analysis, in comparison to two other Greek companies in the A.M.P. business sector. The present thesis also focuses on the analysis of factors that would promote the cultivation of A.M.P. production within the Greek area and suggests promoting State and European initiatives. Furthermore, the market competition is being examined within Greece and also between neighboring countries, in terms of exports. The contribution of the AMP business sector to the Greek GDP is also of concern in this study. Finally, the purpose of the present master thesis is to suggest ways of further utilization of the AMP sector in Greece and indicate the specific plants that can potentially be used in several implementations due to their great properties and profit margin for the companies and the produce.
