The outbreak of the pandemic due to the COVID-19 disease induced unprecedented consequences in the field of education, which was confronted with a series of challenges concerning primarily the preservation of the students and educators’ health, as well as the unencumbered implementation of the educational process. Moreover, new standards were generated in respect to the administration of school unities. Consequently, school leaders were called to face new, unexampled and adversely manageable situations, which influenced the current exercised administrative practices to a large extent, affecting definitively their role.
The present thesis attempts to record the opinions and the experiences of 16 school directors, who direct Greek high-schools belonging to the Directorate of Secondary Education of the second periphery of Athens. The purpose is to research the factors which influence the effectiveness of school leadership during the period of the COVID-19 pandemic.
From the results of the research that have been recorded new approaches, such as the cooperativeness and the adaptability, emerge on the part of the directors, as well as new facts that concern their specific actions, their constant effort for the conservation of positive school climate and the successful outcome of the undertaking of distance education. From now on, the management of the crisis and the consequent changes constitute an extremely important competence for a school leader.
