The 21st century has to deal with the rising waves of immigrants and recently with the constant refugee flows in Europe. Thus, the formation of student population changes. A major issue that has emerged and the modern school is called to resolve is the social, linguistic and cultural inequalities that are due to the cultural diversity of students. The presence of large numbers of students from different cultural environments has a huge impact on educational systems. Schools have to adjust to the presence of these students and meet their needs by providing quality assurance and equal education for all. Multilingualism, multiculturalism and intercultural education are now a part of modern school life and an integral part of educational policy which aims at social integration and the fight against social exclusion. The European Union through announcements, regulations and educational programs, set the guidelines in order to achieve these goals, but their implementation is up to the Member States national policies. This is a comparative case study of the educational system of Greece, Sweden and Germany in the subject of dealing with cultural diversity in the classroom.Τhe factors being compared are: the structure of the educational system, the measures that promote intercultural education, the curricula and the language education policy.
