This thesis aims to present the purpose, character and function of organizations, bodies and associations which act in the field of maritime insurance. More specifically, following a historical overview and presentation of the organizations, current thesis focuses on Lloyd's Insurance and P&I Clubs, with particular emphasis on their structure, regulations, risks coverage, benefits and disadvantages, as they are distinguished as the most important insurance bodies with significant action worldwide action and remarkable resonance in the insurance market. Last but not least, case studies examining incidents of shipping accidents, consist an important part of the thesis.
