This dissertation uses SHARE data (Survey of Health, Ageing and Retirement in Europe) in order to examine the factors that affect morbidity among the elderly. In the first chapter the definition of morbidity is given, factors related to it are discussed as well as the morbidity of the general population and more specifically, the morbidity of the elderly. In the second chapter reference is made to the SHARE project. In addition, variables used in the analysis are identified and a descriptive analysis of the main characteristics of the sample is presented. In the third chapter logistic regression models exploring associations of sociodemographic factors with different chronic diseases such as heart attack, cancer, Alzheimer's disease, mobility problems etc are presented. The last chapter includes a comparison of the different models and a summary of the main results that allows conclusions to be drawn. The main findings of the survey are that gender is considered statistically significant in all diseases other than Alzheimer's disease, whereas age is statistically significant in all diseases, which indicates that they affect the morbidity of respondents in the survey. In addition some countries differentiate compared to Greece concerning some of the diseases. Finally, it is noted that the net worth of each household is statistically significant in all diseases, while the income of each household is considered statistically significant if someone has Alzheimer's, restriction in basic activities, mobility problems, poor-reported or subjective health or heart attack.
