Abstract

Shipping companies are in charge to transport cargoes through the sea. During the last decades, due to the turbulent and dynamic shipping industry, they are created two business models, Tramp and Liner Services. There are several differences between Tramp and Liner as in their features, in the way of the management and in the company philosophy. We are trying to mention the features of each business model, the features of Tramp and Liner market and how the vessels are chartered. Moreover, we will try to note the differences between the operating costs and the voyage expenses in each business model (Tramp-Liner) and we will use the financial statements of two shipping companies (CMA CGM – Teekay Co), in order to compare the percentage of each type of cost.
