The dissertation addressed the issue of Maritime Labour Convention 2006, which with its enforcement secured the rights of the seafarers on the board of the ship. During the mechanism of enforcement and compliance through the process of inspection and certification of ships by the authority of the flag (Flag State Control) as well as through inspection of ships by the port authorities (Port State Control), a ship may be detained in the future for non-compliance with any of the terms of contract. This study, first of all, gives a detailed presentation of the content of the Convention, as well as how ships are inspected and then it analyzes and compares with the results of the inspections as they reported by the annual reports of Paris, Tokyo,
Indian Ocean and Black Sea MoU for 2015. The purpose of this comparison is to conclude on which of the regulations of the Convention overwhelmed the most and why, while three very interesting cases of study are also presented so to lead us to some very useful conclusions.
