Abstract

In this paper we analyze the importance of ship inspections and their contribution to maritime insurance, by reference to the institutional and legal framework currently exists in Greece. In particular, we make a reference to the impact and contribution of ship inspections on the formation of the insurance policy and the premium, as well as on the participation of the ships in P & I Clubs. The main conclusion to this work is that inspections make a significant contribution to maritime insurance, since as analyzed in the main body, inspections are necessary for the conclusion of insurance policies, such as for example damage or situation-check inspections, as well as cargo inspections and loading-unloading means. In addition, it is a fact that marine insurance is crucial nowadays, because it takes measures that help to protect against any accidental occurrences and losses that have occurred at sea. Therefore, in order for a ship owner to obtain the best possible insurance, it is important to have all the necessary and legally required certificates renewed, so that both parties can be satisfied by the insurance policy and significantly reduce the possibility of occurrence risks arising from omissions of the owner.
