Clinical instructions and protocols summarise and evaluate all evidence deriving from well
documented and planned field or clinical research and focus on prevention, diagnosis and
cure of disease. They emphasise on safety and the relation between danger and benefit, as
well as on the efficiency of the various diagnostic and medicinal intervention applied on
every day clinical activity. Medical protocols have direct relation to the various financial
criteria pertaining to the operation of health services institiutions.
The necessity of medical protocols and their direct relation to quality and cost of
hospitalisation, are analysed in this study. Specifically, this study analyses hospital
infections and their implications on patients, their family and medical staff. It is vitally
inmportant to avoid hospital infections due to their impact on a personal and social level.
Prevention and monitoring of hospital infections is exercised by the Center of Control and
Prevention of Disease (ΚΕΕΛΠΝΟ), whose main duties is education of the medical staff as
well as hospital infections prevention by ensuring the application of suitable protocols
applied at the various patient treatment stages.
In conclusion, this prospective study that was taken place in 251 General Ηospital of Hellenic
Air Force, revealed that there is strong conection between cost and quality of hospitality,
after the use of a medical protocol.
