Abstract

The current post-graduate thesis refers to issues related to the implementation of ILO rules through the Maritime Labor Convention 2006 (MLC 2006) and in particular with the minimum obligations and rights established in the field of maritime insurance. This new Convention constitutes a universal protective framework for marine labor and the objective of current paper relates to the responsibility for ship owners in assuming the costs of sickness, accident and repatriation and how they are covered for these liabilities by insurance. In addition, the recent amendments to the Convention that impose specific insurance obligations regarding abandonment and contractual compensation, with the corresponding establishment of a right of direct action against insurers, are also being studied.
