The present thesis investigates the possibility to use renewable or conventional energy systems connected to the electrical grid . It focuses on the use of wind generators, photovoltaic systems, gasoline generators and all their possible combinations. The techno-economic evaluation of the considered investment is implemented with the use of suitable software (HOMER), taking into account all the relevant techno-economic parameters. The main objective is to define the optimal configuration that ensures its feasibility and economic viability. Moreover, a comparison is made with the autonomous function of these systems which draws further conclusions for their optimal operation mode. The scope of the thesis is to export crucial conclusions and useful directives for customers that are interested in investing in renewable energy systems or power system engineers that are engaged in the design and installation of renewable energy systems. The main contribution of the thesis compared to the relevant literature is the complete evaluation of all possible combinations of hybrid energy systems. Also, sensitivity analysis of the results to variations in the selling price and purchase of electricity is performed, which significantly affects the viability and economic return on investment. The verification is done on the basis of both the economic efficiency of the investment and the supply reliability and it is investigated whether the results change or not.
