The purpose of this thesis is, through the study of the available literature, to present the possibilities offered by the application of the Internet of Things to all the sectors of the economy, with particular emphasis on the Supply Chain sectors. The first chapter refers to what the Internet of Things is, the most important events that led to its evolution to this day and the way it works. The architecture of "IoT" is developed in detail, and especially the most widely used types of networks, the available sensors, the various modes of data transfer and the main technologies. At the same time, the challenges and obstacles to be addressed, as well as the risks that may arise from its use, are outlined in detail. In the second chapter, the sectors of the economy most affected by its use are being analyzed, with particular reference to "Smart Cities" and the Supply Chain. Furthermore this chapter presents applied examples of "IoT" technologies in the Supply Chain as well as, the success factors of the "IoT", the advantages and disadvantages of its use, and the socio-economic impact. In the fourth and last chapter of this thesis, the available statistics from research that are carried out in the context of the development of "IoT" projects are mentioned.
