Abstract

The here below Thesis deals with the functions of Maritime Labor in Greece. Its‟ objective is to fully analyze the enviroment of merchantile marine and merchant maritime labor, to present the merchant marine training and its great meaning to the seaman profession, as also to highlight the threat that has come up in the latest years concerning the reduction of the available seamen. More particulary, we are going to study the course of the Greek merchantile marine through the years, and its state at the current time. We will also demonstrate in depth the field of the marine training for officers, through a vast report of the procedures and also have an interesting walkthrough the training communities of the merchant marine. Additionaly, we need to take a close look to the major problem of merchant marine labor, looking through the causes and try to propose ways in order to deal with it. In order to have a better understanding of the situation today, we will display valid numerical data, analysis and recent researches regarding the seafarer employment. Finaly, we will take a look through the prespective of the employer – the maritime company. Which are the conditions of hiring, training and promoting its seamen? And what is the step by step progress of a merchant marine officer career through the years?
