In the current thesis the European Union Energy policy for 2050 is presented, on the
basis of the 2011 Roadmap, focusing on the environmental sustainability of the energy
consumption. The goals of the policies that had already been adopted are described, as
well as the level of their implementation until the introduction of the Roadmap. The
Roadmap strategic positions are presented and analysed indepth, with emphasis on the
share of renewable energy sources in the energy mixture that is to be used by the
member states. Conclusions of this study include the need for the state members to
encourage investments on renewable energy technologies, as all Roadmap scenarios
involve an increase of the share of renewable energy sources. Moreover, the increase of
the building, equipment and car efficiency is vital for the sustainable use of energy.
