Abstract

The aim of this research is the analysis of the field of cargo surveying in Greece. This research studies the literature review on cargo surveying and will set questions concerning the Greek market, the characteristics and the activities of superintending companies as well as their relation to financial, industrial, insurance and transport bodies who demand and nominate cargo supervision. By focusing on the market of agricultural products transported in bulk from and to Greece (imports & exports) as well as focusing on private firms which trade and ship such agricultural products, an attempt is made to provide an image of the main types of cargoes moved in the Greek ports (commodities such as cereals, grains, oils & fats, oilseeds), in relation to the practices and services of weight and quality supervision offered by the cargo surveying companies. The questions that arise and are set herewith attempt to prove the usefulness or not of loss adjusters and independent cargo surveying.
