The purpose of the present study is the examination of the structure, the facilities and the financing of health care system and social insurance of so many years in the U.S. Additionally, we will try to highlight the impacts of the changes of Barack Obama‘s reform. Particularly, it discusses the characteristics of public and private insurance, the social programs and generally the social policy that exists in the U.S. in health care reform. Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act‖ (PPACA) was signed on 23/3/2010 and it contains a lot of rules, the application of which is going to begin 90 days after its enactment and will be completed in 2014, in order to protect the patient and to provide more economically advantageous health care services. The new legislation is something more than a policy covering the weakest and uninsured people. This implies that it is more risky for the insurance companies. Many people consider that the benefits of the new law will help a lot of people whereas other think that health services will still might be too expensive and the government will not have enough money to continue its activities. We will also try to clarify the parameters of the reform effort and we will outline its scope, its funding sources and we will try to identify existing reactions as well as the consequences of the reform. It is going to be a detailed presentation of the evolution of the provisions of the new Act and their timetable. It is remarkable that several of these will not be implemented due to their unconstitutionality -as the court stated- and the fact that U.S. president was forced to cut several settings because of intense reactions in the country from the political, economical and medical status quo.
