The present dissertation discusses the issue of social security in the Greek Media landscape and more specifically the integration of the previously independent severance funds into a single fund (E.T.A.P.-M.M.E.) under the 3655/2008 law. The issues discussed are referring to the rationale of establishing the aforementioned funds (covering insurance, illness, unemployment, pension-main/auxiliary & one-off social supply needs) and their evolution throughout the socio-economic framework in Greece. Moreover, there is a special reference to the duty imposed on advertising spending, the revenues of which are being allocated to all media-related severance funds and unions, safeguarding the sustainable financial independence of the abovementioned institutions. Moreover, there is a thorough analysis of the Greek media social security various aspects, taking into account numerous key parameters such as the advertising spending slowdown and the rapid expansion of the online media with regards to the legal status and the professional rights of the people employed in this newly-born media sector.
