Humanity is more and more concerned about the need to protect the environment. New and stricter regulations are continuously being implemented. Naturally, the international maritime community could not avoid affection. The effort to reduce ship emissions is now of highest priority. The issue of designing and operating a green maritime logistics and supply chain is the subject of this dissertation. The theoretical analysis is limited within the context of liner shipping and especially container shipping companies. Thirteen main problems are identified and optimization solutions are being proposed, along with green best practices. In addition, a few gaps are being underlined in order to provide directions for future studies.
