From the beginning of the industrial revolution the increasing influence of human activity on the natural environment led to its dramatic degradation. Human society has been concerned with this degradation and the need for the development of Environmental Sciences has become even more demanding. Nowadays, Environmental Sciences are called upon for cooperation in order to safeguard the sustainability of the biggest life cell on Earth, the oceans. This cooperation aims to aid policy makers towards the direction of an effective policy, both socially and economically. For this purpose, the introduction of the concept of Integrated Maritime Policy has emerged and the Mediterranean, is considered by many the best choice for the examination of the implementation, function and effectiveness of the Integrated Maritime Policy.
