Abstract

This thesis examines transportation challenges in Santorini within the context of rapid tourism growth. The study aims to analyze the impacts of overtourism on infrastructure and propose sustainable mobility strategies for the island. Initially, the current state of the transport network is assessed, identifying key congestion issues. Subsequently, the environmental and social consequences resulting from increased traffic pressure are analyzed. The research methodology follows a mixed-methods approach, utilizing both primary and secondary data. Primary research was conducted through a structured survey of 72 visitors, focusing on their travel patterns and satisfaction levels regarding public transport. Secondary data were gathered from international literature and statistical reports on the island’s passenger traffic. Data analysis was performed using descriptive statistics. The findings highlight the urgent need for targeted interventions, such as the enhancement of public transport services and the implementation of smart traffic management systems, to ensure the destination's long-term sustainability.
