This thesis explores environmental health to convey both the content and scope of the concepts
involved and to develop a case study. The various definitions analyze the social and psychological
implications, as they determine the level of health, but also the inequalities that exist within
society. The role of institutional authorities and their hierarchies at the international, European,
and national levels is central, given that each body decides and implements policies that affect
multiple other sectors. Special mention should be made of the emissions trading system, whose
main objective is the stable decarbonization of industry, as it is rapidly changing the energy
landscape. The case study examines two key axes: the link between greenhouse gas levels and
PM2.5 levels, and whether changes in PM2.5 levels alter health data. The statistical analysis was
performed using regression analysis, and the databases used belong to international organizations
(EEA, WHO, UNFCCC, IHME) and are open access. The use of the fixed effects model highlights
the strong influence of mortality in space and time, while climate change phenomena have an
impact on public health benefits. Prospects for future research may include either a sectoral
analysis of emissions or a subnational/urban approach.
