| dc.description.abstract | Η βιομηχανία κρουαζιέρας έχει πλέον καθιερωθεί ως ένας ώριμος τομέας και κάθε χρόνο, ο αριθμός των επιβατών κρουαζιέρας αυξάνεται σταθερά. Ως αποτέλεσμα, η ρύπανση αυξάνεται, όχι μόνο στο θαλάσσιο περιβάλλον αλλά και στον αέρα και στις γύρω περιοχές των λιμανιών.
Η παρούσα εργασία εμβαθύνει στο πολύπλευρο ζήτημα της ατμοσφαιρικής ρύπανσης και στις οικολογικές και υγειονομικές συνέπειες που προκύπτουν από τις δραστηριότητες των κρουαζιερόπλοιων στις περιοχές λιμένων και προβλητών. Τα τελευταία χρόνια, η ταχεία επέκταση της βιομηχανίας κρουαζιέρας έχει προκαλέσει ανησυχίες σχετικά με το περιβαλλοντικό της αποτύπωμα, γεγονός που καθιστά απαραίτητη την εκτενή έρευνα στον τομέα αυτό.
Η παρούσα εργασία αποτελεί προσπάθεια να διερευνηθεί το μέγεθος της ρύπανσης που προκαλείται από τις δραστηριότητες των κρουαζιερόπλοιων, με έμφαση στις εκπομπές και τη ρύπανση του αέρα, να αξιολογηθούν οι περιβαλλοντικές και δημόσιες υγειονομικές επιπτώσεις τους και να εξεταστούν πιθανές στρατηγικές μετριασμού.
Αρχικά, θα απαριθμηθούν οι παράγοντες που μπορούν να θεωρηθούν υπεύθυνοι για περιβαλλοντικές επιπτώσεις. Στη συνέχεια, θα αναλυθεί το εύρος της εργασίας και η βιβλιογραφική ανασκόπηση, ακολουθούμενη από μια συζήτηση που συνοψίζει τα ευρήματα από τη βιβλιογραφία που εξετάστηκε.
Κατόπιν, θα αναλυθεί η περίπτωση του Λιμένα του Σαουθάμπτον, παρουσιάζοντας τις εκπομπές αερίων που παράγονται από τα κρουαζιερόπλοια και τη ρύπανση του αέρα στην περιοχή του λιμένα. Στο τελικό κεφάλαιο, θα προταθούν πιθανές λύσεις για την αντιμετώπιση του προβλήματος.
Τελικά, η εργασία φωτίζει την επείγουσα ανάγκη για μια πιο βιώσιμη προσέγγιση στις λειτουργίες των κρουαζιερόπλοιων σε περιοχές λιμένων και προβλητών. | el |

number of cruise ship passengers rises steadily. As a result, pollution is increasing,
not only in the marine environment but also in the air and the surrounding port areas.
This thesis delves into the multifaceted issue of air pollution and its ecological and
health consequences stemming from the operations of cruise ships in port and dock
areas. In recent years, the rapid expansion of the cruise industry has raised concerns
about its environmental footprint, prompting the need for comprehensive research in
this domain. This thesis is an attempt to investigate the extent of pollution generated
by cruise ship activities with emphasis on air emissions & pollution, assess their
environmental and public health impacts, and evaluate potential mitigation strategies.
First, the factors that can be considered to cause environmental impact will be listed.
Secondly, the scope and the literature review of the thesis will be analyzed, followed
by a discussion summarizing the findings from the reviewed bibliography.
Subsequently, the case of the Port of Southampton is analyzed, presenting the air
emissions produced by cruise ships and the air pollution caused in the port area. In the
final chapter, potential solutions to address the problem will be proposed. Ultimately,
the thesis sheds light on the urgent need for a more sustainable approach to cruise ship
operations in port and dock areas. | el |
