This thesis examines the role of finance in promoting the energy transition in the European Union, with a focus on just transition and financial mobilization to achieve the objectives of the European Green Deal. The analysis includes public and private sources of finance, as well as the development of green financial products such as green bonds and green loans. The EU's contribution to international climate funds and development finance institutions is also presented. The Greek case study focuses on the evolution of the national energy mix, investment challenges, policies to support the transition and the implementation of the National Recovery and Resilience Plan. Particular emphasis is placed on the development of energy communities and on addressing energy poverty. The analysis concludes that the success of the green transition requires coherent financial frameworks, balanced regional development and active participation of local communities.
