dc.description.abstractEN	The present thesis unfolds the reasons why commercial settlement is the prevailing method for resolving bunker-related disputes. This research dives into stakeholders’ preference for less formal and commercial negotiations, driven by financial and commercial pressure, operational complexity and contractual fragmentation. Adding to the above, the study outlines how the complex bunker supply chain structure affects dispute-handling management, well-supported by experts’ qualitative insights. Strengthening this argument even more, the case of OW Bunker litigation saga is being examined and evaluated. The research assesses the aftermath of such lengthy and varying court rulings in an attempt to understand the predominance of commercial settlement. In the pursuit of transparency and balance, developments and expected advancements in the field of digitalization and measuring are further assessed. The findings reveal that commercial settlement is in fact the market’s inherent nature to adapt and respond, guided by operational and financial performance, risk management, and business continuity. Yet, to establish confidence and stability in the bunker industry, the widespread adoption of a harmonized uniform is needed. A tolerable system, contractually and commercially, is recommended to foster predictability and minimize exposure.	el
